Rock Church (aka “the Rock”) began in 2013 and meets at West Acres Cinema in Fargo every Sunday at 10 AM. We serve Starbucks coffee, donuts that are bigger than your face, and movie theater popcorn. First-time guests receive a free movie ticket. So, why is Rocket Church your church? I’m glad you asked.
Perhaps you have been places where it seems too big. It’s often hard to connect in a sea of people.
While we are not perfect in this regard, the one comment people say about us most often is that they never feel judged. We teach that sin is bad and look to the Bible to define sin. But we do it with a sense of humility and tenderness. The one thing we do best is preach the truth in a context of unconditional love. If your life doesn’t look at all like the Christian life that the Bible teaches, you can belong here while being encouraged to become more and more like Jesus every day.
At the Rock we believe women are equally capable of preaching and leadership as men.
Our motto—which we love to put on signs and t-shirts—is “at the Rock you belong before you believe.” We believe that we can love and respect people without having to agree. So, even if you don’t believe in God at all, we would like to have you as part of our family. We trust God to reveal himself to you through the preaching and the way we live our lives.
If you like comfortable chairs and nice large cup holders for your coffee, you’re going to enjoy church in a movie theater. If stairs are difficult for you—we do not have a single step. We have room for wheelchairs and if you have ever struggled to hear the preacher preaching, our sound system is awesome. While other churches will give you coffee and donuts, I don’t know of anybody else who is providing fresh-popped movie theater popcorn.
We will do anything short of sin to reach people who don’t know Christ.
We will lead the way with irrational generosity.
We are spiritual contributors not spiritual consumers.
We are faith-filled, big thinking, bet-the-farm risktakers. We will never insult God with small thinking or safe living.
We are small but committed to having a presence online. We post every Sunday message (Rock Talk) and our main discipleship Bible study on Wednesday nights is live streamed. Every day we have a Bible reading that is 5-10 verses long that is related to Sunday’s message. We have some people who cannot leave their homes to go to church who have grown closer to God and become part of our community strictly through our online ministry.
If we visit you in the hospital, we are not just going to pray for comfort and peace. We believe in a supernatural, awesome God who does miracles. When we approach him, we talk to him like the awesome, magnificent, powerful God that he is. We pray big.
We believe that the Bible is the absolute word of God, in its original language and intent. While you do not have to believe the Bible is absolutely true to be a part of our family, the preaching and teaching will always use the Bible as the foundation upon which everything is built.
We believe that our commitment to God is absolute. He isn’t just the highest priority in our lives. He is the center of our lives from which every priority flows.
God has a sense of humor and church should be fun. It does not weaken the truth of the gospel to laugh and have fun. No doubt, you will find parts of our services silly.
